Summary of project 2 ideas

For project 2 I'm going to create an animation in flash where the user has to click to build a wall to keep immigrants from crossing the border. The user will have a character that is standing on one side of the wall. The immigrants will start coming over from the other side of the wall. No matter how fast the user builds, the immigrants will keep coming, until they are all standing on the same side of the wall as the user's character. Then, the user's character will automaticall walk to the other side of the wall, the wall will be diminished, and the "game" will start over. I have some basic sketches of the wall and the characters:

Project 1

Final description: my final project allows users to create original animations by moving their mouse over hidden hot spots which trigger certain imagery. The images are seemingly random, but when layered on top of each other they create unique textures and contrasts. The project's goal is to give the user the elements to create their own art, without giving them specific content.

Acquired skills: for this project I worked in Digital Performer to compose the music, and mostly in Flash for the animations (but also used Photoshop to edit a variety of photographs that I took myself). I don't think I acquired any technical skills, because I already knew those two programs pretty well, but conceptually I think I gained an understanding of content versus content-less websites, and the impact it can have on the user. At first it was difficult to stray away from the idea that my site needed a deeper conceptual meaning, but once I overcame the content it was much easier to start building the project.
